卒業式に、日本のご家族が来てくださることは大変光栄なことです。

ICET/DHSの卒業式は、１年間の達成のお祝いであり、それをこちらで出会った人々と一緒に祝うことに大きな意味があります。同時に、１年間暖かく支援してくださった人々に感謝を述べる場でもあります。日本の厳粛な卒業式とは似ても似つかないものなので、保護者の皆様はびっくりされるかもしれません。

でも、この卒業式の時間と感動は、二度と再生することも再現することもできないものです。

日本からお越しいただきました岩壁様に、含蓄の深い、そして、慈愛に満ちたスピーチを賜りました。

Good evening  everyone

My name is Nobuji Iwakabe.  I’m a father of Naoki.

Today it is a great pleasure and honor for me to stand here and speak to you.

As a representative of Japanese families, I came here to express our gratitude to all of you.

First of all, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for all of host families, teachers & friends of Davidson High School and staffs of ICET.

Thank you very much for supporting our inexperienced children by your big love sometimes strictly and sometimes kindly.

When ICET students left Japan, their face seems to be still uneasy, but today their face is full of confidence.

They could finish studying abroad for one year by your strong support.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for them.

Well, ICET students.

Congratulations on your graduation.

How is your present feeling ?

I suppose that you are now very complicated state of mind.

You want to go back to Japan, but you don’t want to go back to Japan.

You want to meet with Japanese family and friends earlier, but you want to stay

here if possible.        Probably your feeling may be swinging like this.

I think that it is quite natural feeling.

Since it is the first experience for you, it is not so easy to make up your mind.

But please think about it seriously without escaping from the fact.

Because you will meet with similar scene many times in your coming long life.

So please learn to control your emotion and make a judgment calmly.

Such experience will make you grow greatly.

You stayed here for long time like one year without meeting with Japanese families.

When I think about your age of 16 or 17, I think that it was very courageous decision and you had many difficulties during this one year.

However you overcame those difficulties and attend at this graduation

ceremony today.

I want to give big applause for your courage and a magnificent challenge

 Your long journey in Australia will finish on day after tomorrow.

But it is only one passage point in your long life

Your new journey will start again from the next week in Japan.

So, after going back to Japan or even from now, please deeply consider what is your next target and what you have to prepare for achieving to that target.

Please try to think about it and take necessary action by yourself positively.

Then please find out the most suitable way for you.

I believe that surely you can do that, because you have already learned

a spirit of “Have it a go” in DSH.

Finally I thank all of you once again.

Thank you very much for your giving love to ICET students.

They will bring your big love back to Japan and that love will be given to somebody next from them as you did so.

I hope that this chain of love will be continued without break forever.

I wish for further development of DSH & ICET and good health to all of you.

皆様こんばんは。

私は岩壁　宣二と申しまして直毅の父です。

本日ここに立ち皆様にお話しできることは光栄であると共に大きな喜びです。

日本の保護者の代表として私は全ての皆様に私達の感謝を伝えるためにここに参りました。

まず最初に私は全てのホストファミリーの皆様、デビッドソン高校の先生方やクラスメート

そしてICETのスタッフの皆様に心よりの感謝を伝えたいと思います。

私達の未熟な子供たちを時には厳しく時には優しく皆様の大きな愛で支えてくださってどうも

ありがとうございました。

ICETの生徒が日本を発った時、彼らの顔は未だ不安げに見えました、でも今日の彼らの顔は

自信に満ち溢れています。

彼らは皆様の強いご支援によって一年間の留学を終えることができました。

皆様が彼らに対してして下さった全ての事に対して感謝申し上げます。

さて、ICETの生徒諸君。

ご卒業おめでとうございます。

今の気持ちは如何ですか？

私は皆さんが今とても複雑な心境ではないかと思います。

皆さんは日本に帰りたい、でも日本に帰りたくない。

皆さんは日本の家族や友人に会いたい、でもできるならここに残りたい。

恐らく皆さんの気持ちはこのように揺れ動いているかもしれません。

私はそれが全く自然な感覚だと思います。

それは皆さんにとって初めての経験なのですから自分の考えをまとめるのは容易ではありません。

でもどうか現実から逃げずに真剣にそのことについて考えてください。

何故なら皆さんはこれからの長い人生で何度も似たような場面に遭遇するからです。

ですからどうか感情をコントロールし冷静に判断を下すことを学んでください。

そのような経験が皆さんを大きく成長させることでしょう。

皆さんは日本の家族から離れて一年という長い期間をここで過ごしました。

私が皆さんの16もしくは17という年齢を考えた時、この留学はとても勇気のある決断だったと

思いますしこの一年間で多くの困難にぶつかったことと思います。

でも皆さんはその困難を乗り越えて　今日この卒業式に出席しています。

私は皆さんの勇気と壮大な挑戦に大きな拍手を送りたいと思います。

皆さんのオーストラリアでの長旅も明後日で終わります。

しかし、それは皆さんの人生における単なる通過点に過ぎません。

皆さんの新しい旅は再び来週から日本で始まります。

ですから、日本に帰国後　あるいは今からでも　皆さんの次の目標は何なのか、その目標を

達成するためにはどんな準備をしなければならないのか深く考えてください。

どうか皆さん自身で積極的にそれについて考え必要な行動を起こそうとしてください。

そして皆さんにとって最適の道を見つけてください。

私は皆さんにはきっとそれができると信じています。

何故なら皆さんは既にデビッドソン高校で　[Have it a go]　の精神を学んだのですから。

最後にもう一度皆様に御礼申し上げます。

ICETの生徒たちに皆様の愛を与えてくださりどうもありがとうございました。

彼らは皆様から頂いた大きな愛を日本に持って帰ります。

そしてその愛は皆様がして下さったように彼らから次の誰かに与えられることでしょう。

私はこの愛の絆が途切れることなく永遠に続いてくれることを願います。

デビッドソン高校とICETの益々のご発展と皆様のご健康を祈願いたします。
